DBT-PE
Dialectical Behavior Therapy-Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) is an evidence based therapeutic approach that combined elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE). It is primarily used with individuals who have experienced traumatic events and are diagnosed with PTSD.
DBT developed by Marsha Linehan is an evidence based treatment used to help individuals manage their emotions and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
Prolonged Exposure is a well-established treatment for PTSD. It focuses on reducing symptoms by encouraging individuals to confront and process traumatic memories. Individuals gradually and repeatedly revisit these memories in a safe and controlled environment to reduce their emotional impact.
In my practice, DBT-PE is utilized with individuals 16 and over. DBT-PE is a wonderful treatment for both adolescents and adults who struggle with PTSD and have been through standard DBT.
Clients should look for a therapist who has been intensively trained in both DBT and DBT-PE. I have been intensively trained in both modalities
